Dorothys shoes from The Wizard of Oz at exhibition in London

The iconic red shoes worn by Judy Garland in 1939 movie 'The Wizard of Oz' are coming to England for the first time to be shown at Hollywood Costume exhibition at London's Victoria & Albert Museum.

The original ruby shoes - which are on loan from Washington's Smithsonian National Museum of American History – will be on a public display outside the US for the first time together with Dorothy's blue and white gingham dress.

It apparently took five years for V&A senior guest curator Deborah Nadoolman to secure the shoes, which were made in 1938, for the exhibition.

The slippers have been loaned exclusively to the V&A from the exhibition's launch date on October 20 until November 18 - as they need to be returned in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, when 'The Wizard of Oz' is televised annually.

Only four pairs of the iconic slippers have been made. Extravagant pop star Lady Gaga also owns a pair as they were given to her as a Birthday gift last year.
