BEST MAKE-UP ADVICE FOR YOUR EYE SHAPE

By Zuzana Ritchie, Beauty Writer and Make-up Artist

Smudged mascara, droopy eyeliner or eye shadow disappears every time you open your eyes? Identify your eye shape and most ideal eye make-up for you with our handy guide.

Deep-Set Eyes like Cameron Diaz

Your eyes are large and set deeper into the skull, creating the illusion of a more prominent brow bone.

Make-up For Deep-Set Eyes:

Brighten up the natural shadowing by dusting on a beige or warm colour on the eyelid (i.e. peach) and highlight under your brow arches with an illuminator. Prevent mascara smudges with a waterproof one, as the ends of your lashes are likely to graze your eyelids.

Monolid Eyes like Lucy Liu

Your eyelids are flat on the surface and don't have much of a crease, if any at all.

Make-up For Monolids:

Create a definition of your less defined brow bone with a gradient of eye shadows, dark to light. Shade the darkest colour closest to the lash line, the soft, neutral hue in the middle, and the shiny colour at the brow bone. Always curl lashes for a lift.

Hooded Eyes like Blake Lively

Your eyes have an extra layer of skin that droops over the crease, causing the lid to appear smaller.

Make-up For Hooded Eyes:

Draw the focus upward, diffuse darker shadow over and out past the crease. Apply kohl pencil between the top lashes and the top waterline to intensify and enlarge your eye shape, plus thicken the lash base.

Protruding Eyes like Nicole Richie

Your eyes create the appearance of projected lids in the eye socket area and you have lots of eyelid space to play with!

Make-up For Protruding Eyes:

Blend darker toned eye shadow all over your eye to make your eyelid less bulging. Dark tones recede space and size, try out smoky eye make-up. Apply thick liner along your upper lash line to further diminish some of the space.

Upturned Eyes like Angelina Jolie

Your eye has a classic almond shape, with a natural lift at the outer corner.

Make-up For Upturned Eyes:

The lower lid has more emphasis and looks longer than the top lid. To even out the proportions, apply dark shadow or pencil along the outer lower corner to bring down the lifted effect. Use the mirror effect by swiping the colours along the bottom lash line.

Downturned Eyes like Camilla Belle

Your eyes have a slight dropping on the outer corners.

Make-up For Downturned Eyes:

Cat eyes eye make-up looks great with this shape. Apply a liquid liner along the top lid and extend outward and upward at a 45-degree angle. This effect will create symmetry.

Close-Set Eyes like Jennifer Aniston

Your eyes are less than one eyeball width apart.

Make-up For Close-Set Eyes:

Create the illusion of more space by using light eye shadows in the inner corners. Try frosty white or sparkling nude hues. Dab extra mascara or add individual lashes to the outer corner to pull the focus outward.

Wide-Set Eyes like Amanda Seyfried

Wide set eyes are more than one eyeball width apart.

Make-up For Wide-Set Eyes:

To bring your eyes closer together, rim your top and bottom lash line with a black liner as close to the inner tear duct as possible and use a mascara comb to swipe all of your tiny lashes from mid eye to nose.
