Time to ditch your favourite coral lipgloss that’s been offsetting your tan. Why? Lips get a ‘berry-licious’ update. Here’s how to master the current matt lip trend.
Prep and Prime
Just like the eye shadow primers for your lids, lips need prepping for a flawless result too. Exfoliate your lips to smoothen them first and apply a lip balm or a clear primer. Blot the excess moisture off.
Conceal and Powder
This step might seem weird but it’s what gives your lips the colour-lasting effect and reveals a true colour of your lipstick. Apply a very thin layer of a light foundation on your lips. You can use a liquid concealer too and work it into the lips with your finger. Lightly dust some translucent powder over it.
Shape and Fill-In
With a lip pencil, draw an outline of your lips and fill them in. Kohl pencil base ensures extra staying power too. Opt for rich plum and dark berry colours.
Even Out and Finish
Choose a lipstick of a dark plum or berry hue and apply it straight from the bullet. With a lip brush, even out the edges if needed. Blot with a tissue and repeat. Blot again.
Top Tip: If you’re missing the on-trend dark berry coloured pencil or lipstick in your collection, don’t despair and get mixing. Take a brown kohl pencil or brow pencil, outline the shape of your lips and fill them in. Then apply dark, blueish-red lipstick on top and blend together with a brush. You should get a nice, wine-stained, vampy shade.
