BLONDE COMMITMENT – BEST HAIR CARE TIPS FOR BLONDES

By Zuzana Ritchie, Beauty Writer and Make-up Artist

What do Gwen Stefani, Fearne Cotton, Erin Heatherton and Naomi Watts have in common? They’re all flying the flag for hot blondes. But being blonde is a full time job. Follow our blonde hair care tips so you can keep those ‘goldie locks’ in top condition!

Why All The Fuss?

Whilst brunettes have three layers – the medulla, the cortex and the cuticle – in their hair, naturally blonde hair has no medulla and the hair shaft is finer in terms of diameter. That makes blonde hair finer, more fragile and susceptible to dryness. Plus trying to find the right shade of blonde can make the blonde hair more porous and delicate. But for every problem, we have a solution from the pros to help you restore your blonde crown to its full glory.

Dry and Fragile?
Natural blonde hair does tend to be fragile and when you overwork it with colouring it.

Sort it by giving your thirsty hair plenty of moisture and tender loving care on weekly basis. Search for ‘miracle repair’ products that protects against any heat damage.

Dull and Faded?
Sort it
by using a tone restoring products with added shine boosting properties. Rake the shop aisles for hair products specializing in blonde hair care.

Too Yellow?
Blonde hair – natural and coloured - has a tendency to yellow.
Sort it by using a tone restoring shampoo and conditioner with neutralizing elements.

Too Brassy?

Hard water is the worst news for blondes.

Sort it by adding a water filter for your showerhead to save the hair colour and use products with a violet pigment, this will kill off the brassy off-tones.

Top Tips for the Happy Ending:

1. Perfect Blonde

Find your perfect shade by observing your skin tone, warm or cool. If you are a low maintenance, stay away from the shades that require striking makeup combo, hats off to you, Gwen Stefani, because no makeup will make your blonde look believable.

2. Blonde and Blonder

Want to be blonder for summer, get season-smart with this clever colouring tricks. As the sun in the summer lightens your hair so keeping the base in the spring and incorporating highlights through the rest of hair, adding more towards summer, is the key. From end of summer, reverse the game by decreasing the lightness of the base and incorporating lowlights in the autumn months.
